Frequently Asked Questions

Q.      How can counselling help me?

A.      Counselling will give you the opportunity to think and talk about whatever is going on for you in a confidential, non-judgmental space.  This will enable you to gain more clarity, become more self-aware and understand the cause of any imbalance you may be experiencing along with your patterns of responding to your difficulties.  This will then open up your potential to make positive changes in your life.

Q.     What kind of problems can counselling help with?

A.     Counselling can be used to address almost anything that might be causing concerns for you and your wellbeing.  Some of the issues may be current and others historical but still have an impact on you now. Examples include;

  • Abuse
  • Addiction
  • Anger
  • Anxiety and stress
  • Bereavement and loss
  • Bullying
  • Cultural identity issues
  • Depression
  • Discontent
  • Divorce
  • Eating disorders
  • Employment issues
  • Fertility
  • Health concerns
  • Lack of Motivation
  • Major life changes
  • Redundancy and work issues
  • Relationship difficulties
  • Sexuality
  • Trauma
  • Violence
  • Worry

Q.      How much will each session cost?

A.      Individual counselling sessions: £120

          Couple’s therapy sessions: £160 each

          Clinical supervision: £85 per hour

Q.      How long is each session?

A.      Individual counselling sessions and couples therapy sessions are 50 minutes each. Supervision is as agreed.

Q.      How long will I have to wait for an appointment?

A.      I usually manage to offer a first appointment within 1-2 weeks depending on your availability and flexibility.

Q.     What should I expect from my first counselling session?

A.     Your first session is really an opportunity to decide whether you want to pursue counselling and whether you feel comfortable with me as your therapist.  I would use the opportunity to ask some questions and find out a little about you and what brings you to counselling.  So that I too can be clear about whether I can be of help to you before we agree to work together.

Q.      What will couple’s therapy entail?

A.      The assessment process for the couple’s therapy requires that I first meet with the both of you, then I would arrange to see you individually for one session each then together again to feedback what I make of your relationship, the patterns, pitfalls and how I can help.

Behavioral Couple’s Therapy is more directive and will require your commitment to work on your relationship in between sessions by practicing the exercises you learn with me in the sessions.

Your relationship doesn’t have to be completely falling apart before you can justify seeking couple’s therapy, sometimes communication can breakdown in a mutually loving, caring relationship because of something else like loss, trauma, or depression in one of the partners.

Q.      Where will the sessions take place?

A.      I currently offer in person appointments from a two different locations in London, one is in the City of London at 20 Birchin Lane, EC3V 9DU. The nearest train stations are Bank/Monument, Cannon Street, Mansion House, Moorgate and Liverpool Street.  The other location is in Central London at 37 Queen Anne Street, which is in Marylebone just off Harley Street and the nearest stations are Bond Street, Baker Street, Oxford Circus and Marylebone.

I also offer appointments over the telephone or via video conferencing platforms like Zoom or Microsoft Teams.

Q.     What if I need to cancel?

A.     I understand that there will be times when this might happen and I do not charge for planned breaks in therapy.  I  ask that if you need to cancel a scheduled appointment, you give me as much notice as possible and I would endeavor to do the same if I need to cancel.  However, I do charge my full fee for appointments that are missed or cancelled giving less than 24 hours notice.
